Bobbi Brown Crushed Lip Color first impressions and review

Oh, well hello friends! Bobbi brown has come out with a new lipstick formula that promises to feel like a balm but apply like a lipstick/stain for buildable color pay off. Immediately I wanted to try it and I knew which shade I just had to have! With my awful luck though the shade I wanted to try “Babe” was almost instantly sold out. So I put my name on the wait list and waited and waited and still it never came in stock. So today I hopped on over to Sephora to see the shades in person to select something that I thought would work for me. I really enjoy a red tint but hate red lipstick so I took a peek at Cherry, Ruby and Regal. Both Regal and Cherry showed up very blue/fuschia on my skin but Ruby was dead on the color I was looking for. Here is the description of this lip color from Sephora’s website:

Loaded with soft matte pigments for high color payoff with a blotted-down stain effect and formulated with vitamins E and C and beeswax, this lipstick glides on comfortably and leaves lips hydrated and kissably-soft. The long-wear formula gives lips color without feeling heavy, for a un-lipstick look and feel that doesn’t feather or fade. Swipe once for a pigment-rich, stained effect or more for a fuller-coverage look—no mirror required.

So first thing is first, it looks like just a normal lipstick and the price point is pretty damned high at $28USD, though that is normal for BB. I’ll also tell you that right now you can get it directly on if you purchase two you will get $10 off with code 10OFFCRUSH until 9/10/17 You can also sign up for ebates and get an extra 4% cash back. If you’re interested in ebates you can sign up by clicking here.

Okay, on with the tea you were looking for. It does feel pretty good on the lips, goes on smoothly and you probably don’t need a mirror to apply unless you are going with a thicker layer which I would recommend. You definitely need to exfoliate first because the lip color will sit in every fine line and crack on first swipe. I’ve added pictures of one layer vs. two so you can see the difference in color payoff.

This color (Ruby) is absolutely gorgeous against my neutral skintone. It is described as a mid tone yellow/red and I tend to agree with that. It does glide on and it does feel slightly waxy as well. It’s just a hit of red without being completely bold. I think it’ll be great for every day use as well. I give these lipsticks, or at the very least this shade an A as long as you build of the color. If just one swipe it’s a solid C.
